Great on a webserver, not so good on XAMP and MAMP when being run on a mac. It was a member based site and I eventually came to coding the functions to send emails to users using the php mail() command. I have recently been creating a new website using the program MAMP as a home server for testing my php script.
Try at your own risk (my mac works fine though). I thought I would share the process in the effort to save other people the hours I spent trying to sort this out.
I really have little idea what the steps I took actually did to my mac (never a good thing) but I do know that smtp is now working and I have had no other problems. I am not an advance mac user and would advise anyone following these steps to look further into them first. I have created this blog purely out of the frustration I had trying to get my MAMP application to send out test emails on my mac.
